Uni/TAFE Students

Our study and mentor programs use OptimalWork.com to help the boys work at their best, at will. Incredibly, the teachings of St Josemaria Escriva align perfectly with the ‘neuroscience based principles’ of OptimalWork.com

Overview

Mirrabooka offers a range of activities for University/Tertiary Education students. These include cultural and social gatherings, local outings, study weekends, local and international service projects, community outreach, volunteering, spiritual formation and many others.

These activities are aimed at helping men develop leadership qualities, attain a broad human awareness of today’s culture, and enlarge and strengthen their friendships in a relaxed and open setting.

Regular Activities

Tertiary and University Students are more than welcome to come any day of the week to study in the library, provided they inform the director of the Study Centre, Theodore Wong.

The centre is also open anytime for the boys to come and do mental prayer in the chapel. There is no need to inform anyone if you are coming to pray.
Mentoring or spiritual direction can be arranged through contacting Tim Helbano.

The Study Centre is also willing to help the students continue to improve in the quality and quantity of their workflow, overcoming problems such as anxiety or addictive behaviours, through a paid subscription to OptimalWork.com, and to their highly acclaimed MasterClass. The MasterClass normally costs $75 dollars a month but through Mirrabooka you will receive an 80% discount. Outside of study and mentoring, formative activities usually occur on Thursday nights from 7:15pm for University and Tertiary Students.

Barbecue & Sport night

Once a month, usually on the second Thursday of the month, Mirrabooka hosts a barbecue and sports competition night, where students come together to have dinner, usually a barbecue, a meditation (guided prayer), confession, then sport.

Usually the sport of choice is basketball but some nights we play futsal. This usually begins at 7:00pm. Please contact Tim Helbano (0490 526 575) for more details.

Retreats

Spiritual retreats are offered several times each year in Bargo Conference Centre (44-46 Hambridge Road Bargo NSW 2574), typically from Friday night until Sunday afternoon. Please see the website for more information.

Meditations and Recollections

Mirrabooka offers a weekly meditation for University/Tertiary Education students on Thursday nights at 8:15pm conducted by a priest of Opus Dei, followed by a get-together.

The Sacrament of confession is also available. A meditation is essentially guided prayer, where a priest speaks for 30 minutes in an effort to help facilitate a dialogue with Jesus Christ.

Usually on the third Thursday of the month, a recollection is held. Recollections are best explained as an abbreviated retreat, a recollection allows one to take a step back from the hustle and bustle of daily life, so as to renew one’s relationship with God. It also offers the opportunity to reassess and renew resolutions and bring a fresh outlook for living well. Recollections are approximately 2 hours in length and include: a talk on Christian life, prayer led by a priest, benediction and opportunity for confessions.

Recollection starts at 7:15pm and involves spiritual reading, a talk on a doctrinal, spiritual or moral topic, an examination of one’s own conscience, a meditation with a priest, benediction, followed by supper where everyone can mingle and catch up over a cold or hot beverage.
